The simple rule

Julian is the old style. Gregorian is the new style. Orthodox observance in this product follows the Julian/Byzantine liturgical structure first, including the fixed commemorations and Julian Paschalia, and then shows how that date maps onto the modern civil Gregorian date.

Old style
Julian basis
This is the calendar basis to which the Orthodox feasts and liturgical day logic are tied in the app.
New style
Gregorian civil date
This is the modern civil comparison date users usually expect to see in ordinary daily life and public reference contexts.
